Ork Boyz!

Hi,

So today I thought I'd share some of my many Ork boyz. This lot are all AoBR, meaning they are pretty simple and none are converted. I plan to do a big unit of shoota boyz in the future from the standard Ork boy models and put more effort into those.

Anyway, I'm still working on the Deff Dread. I thought in the mean time I'd work on back-blogging parts of my army I've already done.

Firstly, here's my Big Mek. I put a relatively large amount of effort into this guy since I love the model. It was also my 1st attempt at directional lighting:

The second thing I'd like to share today is some of my Grotz! I seriously love Gretchin, they have never let me down in a game (well, except that ONE time...) and they have a ton of character. However, not suprisingly these were speed painted:

A bit of 40k and Epic

Today I've been doing two things:

1/ I decided it was time to build my Deff Dread. It's a lovely model, but wanting to scavenge enough pieces to build a Gargant for my Epic army made deciding which bits to use difficult.
I also decided that I wanted two close combat weapons as standard with any combination of the following weapons: 2x Big Shootas, a Rokkit Launcha or a Skorcha. With this in mind I magnitised the 4 weapons (by drilling and inserting magnets)so I can mix and match depending on how I feel.

Here are the pieces, ready to be painted:

2/ Also today I've made and painted some Fimo counters to use in Epic. I've only done a few so far, but plan to do ~30 in total. I'm pleased with how they've turned out, and are tiny enough (smaller than a 5p coin) so that they shouldn't look too messy in the game.

Tiny Tinz Boomwagon!

I finally finished the battlewagon!

To be honest, I was suprised it didn't take longer to complete since it's a fantastic model with loads of detail. Luckily after doing the basecoat the process speed along. Overall I'm pleased with the final product, especially since it echos my Epic vehicles. Here are the pictures:

While I'm finishing the battlewagon I thought I'd post some old photos showcasing some of my skaven army. This was my first 'speed' attempt at non metalic metals, and I decided to base them on sewer themed bases using water effects.

Orky Rust

Happy Easter everyone!

Today I thought I should crack on with my 40k army, and began painting a battlewagon. It's alarmingly slow progress (all those nooks and cranny's), but it's getting there. I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to document how I paint Orky metal. When coming up with a metal colour scheme, I wanted it to look really battered and badly maintained but at the same time needed something super quick to do...So here's what I came up with:

Step 1.

I base the metal with GW's Tin Blitz:



Step 2.

I then dry brush GW's Boltgun metal:



Step 3.
Rust:

Next I dry brush Vallejo's Parasite brown into the crevices and around bolts:



Step 4.
Oxidised metal:

I then paint in Vallejo's Turquoise in crevices and around bolts :



Step 5.
Finishing:

Finally I dry brush a highlight of GW's Mithril silver:



And that's the metal done :)

I'm hoping to finish the battlewagon over the Easter holidays, and I will post pictures of the finished piece ASAP.

An Empire Distraction

Happy Thursday everyone :)

Today I thought I'd take a bit of a trip down (a non-Ork-y) memory lane.

I had a long break from fantasy, and when I got back into it after ~5 years the Army i choose to do this with was The Empire. My reason for this was the conversion potential and the love of steampunk artwork. The theme I chose was 'Insect Steampunk' (which was justified by fluff). It was heavily converted, using a lot of greenstuff and tin-can. I speed built and painted the army (<4 months) for a Tournament in 7th ed, and despite the rushed paint job it bagged 'Best painted army'.
